Great lens for great price!

Excerpt: Use this lens for back yard birding and some sports. Took it to a NFL training camp and for my distance from the field, got some great shots. Compared to my old non-vr version it is somewhat larger but the vr is worth it. Was somewhat leery about a refurb but after reading many positive reports on photo forums I took a chance-lens looks like new!
Excerpt: This lens & a Nikon 18-200vr & a Kenko Pro300 1.4X TC & a good DX Nikon body are a light-weight, compact system capable of quality results when you don't want to haul the pro glass around. I've gotten some of my better shots shooting without tripods and heavy lenses, cameras. This lens has been around for a while and has many expert reviews using sophisticated equipment, so go there for critical reviews. As for Cameta- Excellent all the way.
Pros: Compact, Easy to Use, Great Picture Quality, Lightweight
Summary: Bought this on a "B Friday deal", as I wanted to expand my limited photo shots (I had only the 18-55 which is supplied with the camera) and boy ..is this a whopper....... As all other reviews stated 4/5 stars, I've got to agree , only thing is maybe the 200 lens might be more practical ( for me )as this is a big lens and as yet I am not too interested in wildlife shots , though that said it is the only extra lens I will ever need as I am an amateur , and I mean amateur...
Summary: I have been looking at this lens for ages till price was right for a second hand one in good condition, when it arrived i was dissapionted there was no pouch for lens and no lens hood as when new they come as standard, but the lens itself was in very good condition and worked perfectly .So i think in future i will buy new .BUT do recomend this lens as all nikon lens well made built to last and great picture quality
Summary: Having long since ceased to use my old AF Nikkor 70-300mm 4.5-5.6D ED because of dissatisfaction with picture quality I fairly recently bought the excellent SF-S 18-200mm 188.8.131.52 VR DX lens, from Amazon which has become my general workhorse. A Sigma 170-500mm 5-6.3 has been my 'birdwatching' tool for some time but with poor results at full stretch.
Summary: Spent all your Dosh on a camera that was supplied body only and now need to purchase a lens. Look no further than this Lens offering 70-300 range and made by Nikon. The focus on my D700 is rapid and the anti vibration works a treat. Image quality is excellent and this Lens will do it all - Almost! Add the Nikon 50mm F1.8 and you can cover most photographic needs with just these two lenses and you won't have paid a fortune.
Summary: I'll be upfront, unlike at least one other reviewer of this lens, I do have the heavyweight, expensive f2.8 version, and I wouldn't swap that lens for this one. However, it is difficult to take a heavy lens on an airplane. Even if you can find the baggage allowance for a heavy lens, you still have to lug the thing around with you when you get to your destination.
