A lemon it is.

Summary: I bought this lens over a month ago and returned it after 2 weeks. You get what you pay for. The shocking thing is it is made by Nikon ! The lens never focused sharp at any focal length. AT 300 mm it was almost OOF. Threw tons of pictures away as every one of them was unsharp at even under 300mm. I bought it to make it easier to carry as my Nikon 70-200mm F 2.8 weighs a ton. I read quite a few positive reviews before I made the purchase.
Summary: I bought this lens to replace a Nikon 55-200 vr which I gave to my son. It was a great lens but I was looking for the longer focal length and an improvement in quality. I chose this lens instead of the Tamron 70-300 VC because the reading buyer's reviews indicated that Tamron seemed to suffer from quality issues. The lens impressed from the outset - it is solid and quite heavy.
