  • Summary: Want to get extreme close-up shots on any camera format? Look no further than the Nikon 60mm f/2.8 micro lens… Many lenses are labelled ‘macro’, implying they support ultra-close-up shooting. But in most cases this isn’t really true. For real macro photography you need a genuine macro lens. Nikon calls these Micro-Nikkors. The 60mm f/2.8G (£450, $550) is a fairly recent introduction, and has several advanced features.

Lens Test: Nikon 60mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Micro-Nikkor

Pop Photo

  • Excerpt: The latest version of Nikon's legendary close-focusing 1:1 "normal" macro (the first was the 55mm f/3.5 of 1961), this full-frame lens ($490, street) incorporates aspheric and ED glass elements, with Nikon's Nano crystal coating, indicated by the gold "N" logo, for suppressing internal flare and reflections. Internally focusing, with a non-rotating front element, it's suited to Nikon's lensmounted, wireless macro flash system.

This lens is compatible with both FX and DX format cameras. On a DX camera, it will provide an angle of view equivalent to a 90mm lens used on a 35mm camera.

  • Excerpt: While I hope to create a full Nikon 60mm f/2.8G AF-S ED Micro Lens evaluation, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for the posting of those standard test results.

  • Excerpt: Originally posted 2011-03-07 on Optyczne.pl There are really a lot of macro 50-60 mm lenses available currently on the market. You can divide them into two distinct groups. The first one consists of instruments designed for smaller sensors – as examples we can list here such lenses as the Canon EF-S 60 mm f/2.8 USM Macro, the Tamron SP AF 60 mm f/2.0 Di II LD (IF) Macro 1:1 or the Olympus ZD 50 mm f/2.0; all of them have been tested by us.
  • Cons: significant vignetting,, a bit too high chromatic aberration near the maximum relative aperture,, lack of a focus limiter.

Micro-Nikkor AF-S 60mm f/2.8 G ED (FX) - Review / Test Report

photozone.de
20 September 2010
  • Conclusion: The Micro-Nikkor AF-S 60mm f/2.8 G ED is an excellent lens that delivers very sharp images straight from the maximum aperture down to f/11, where diffraction starts to reduce resolution. Typical for macro lenses it is practically free of distortion. CAs are moderate and decrease by stopping down (and are easy to correct in post processing anyway), while vignetting is surprisingly high at large apertures.
