Excerpt: I purchased this lens with a D40 around 3-4 years ago. I purchased this set up because of the positive reviews it had received as being a good value and a quality product. It was a replacement to a point and shoot digital camera with a long lag time.
Excerpt: Very disappointed with my AF-S DX NIKKOR ED 55-200mm f/4-5.6G lens. At 11 months (purchased 2009) the autofocus stopped working. Prior to that autofocus failed frequently in low light. Resolution was fine.
Excerpt: Have had this lens for less than a year and it's seen minimal use, only during two vacations. The plastic mounting broke which prevents the lens from mounting to the camera body. Internet if full of stories about how easily this breaks....basically it's cheap.
Excerpt: this is a great lens perfect for pro looking pics for not such pros like me.Returned lens because never worked right and often just stopped focusing all together, [...] I ended up returning it and bought one from Nikon refurbished. [...] will not shop here again.
Excerpt: OK, so I got what I paid for I suppose. Had I known that the quality and performance of this lens was so poor, under no circumstances other an emergency would I have bought it. The lens simply would not focus. I shot a couple hundred test images, comparing 3 lenses.
Excerpt: Lens functions well up to 105, then has a mind of it's own. My friends focuses up to 135. Neither will snap at 200. Mine catches while hand turning from 55 to 105. Another friend had a similiar problem and moved up to a higher value lense and now has a great lense.
