While I hope to create a full Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for me to post information and standard results for the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Lens. Read more

Now if you are attempting to travel light with your camera then this is probably the lens for you since it is very small and you can capture some great (amazing) pictures with this camera. I mean it is only like 2 inches long, and it’s really light so it’s perfect for your trip! This lens is really, really sharp. I’m not a professional or anything but I love it, and I’ve seen rave reviews about its sharpness elsewhere. Read more

The Nikkor 1.8/50 isn’t a faultless instrument because it would be impossible for a 120 $ device to be so. For that sum of money we still get quite a lot so it would hard to complain especially that in the most important category, concerning the resolution, the Nikkor definitely shows its true caliber. Contrary to popular opinion its build quality can’t be seriously criticized either. Read more

I recently purchased a used Nikon F100 for a Photography class. (I've always wanted to learn to develop film. It's not that easily accessible!) This was one of two lenses I bought, knowing that I wanted a lightweight, compact, and "fast" lens. It's worked great. I was very happy to get this lens - brand new - and have loved the results. With an adapter, I use this on my Sony NEX-5N and it works flawlessly as well. I love the beautiful, soft bokeh for portraiture. Read more

I would recommend this to a friend if they were buying it at around $100 and not $180. If your camera body does support AF focusing. If not, still works with manual focus. Read more

    • Very inexpensive. I remember buying mine for more like $110. It was well wroth it. I've been using it for my D40. It's a good small lightweight lens. Good for casual s...
    • A bit plasticy. Feels kind of cheap. Focus ring is a bit clunky. Doesn't auto focus with certain cameras. Look to see if you camera body supports AF. Pictures are a bi...

I have been using Nikon cameras and lenses for several decades. This is not one that they should be proud of. If you must have a fast "normal" lens for limited amount of money, it's is OK, but you get what you paid for. Read more

    • Fast, very inexpensive, reasonably fast AF.
    • Images at f/1.8 are not really sharp, not even at the center. The lens has sever flare problem, particularly for night photos where one gets strong "ghost" images of a...

First off this is a manual focus lens, and it works great on my D3100 that I recently purchased. The first time using the lens it took me a little while to figure out how to bring into focus. But that issue has been resolved. Recently went to Williamsburg, Va. to take pictures and it's the only lens that I used and it worked great. Very pleased with performance of the lens at the price. This lens is fast, sharp, and for the cost, of exceptional quality. I have the f/1.4G, but there's really no detectable difference in image quality until you're under very low light. If you don't have a 50mm and need one for general photography or portraiture, it's easily worth the cost...and then some. Read more
