Not a great lens

G. Hoyle, Amazon
22 January 2014
  • Summary: This lens seemed a little soft. Not as good as my 24-120 zoom. I sold it within just a couple of days.

Mediocre Image Quality and Sharpness on a D800

PhotoBuff "Pixsalot", Amazon
2 March 2013
  • Summary: I was rather disappointed with the 28mm f/2.8 as a whole. The IQ, contrast, and sharpness are subpar from the perspective of a Nikon traditionalist. I frequently shoot with some great lenses on my D800...a 135mm f/2, 105mm f/2.8 VR, 70-200mm f/2.8 VR and 14-24mm f/2.8 all producing incredibly detailed poster sized enlargements with sharp detail. However, the 28mm just couldn't compete.

Nice lens except for build quality

Lucas, B&H Photo
24 March 2009
  • Excerpt: I like shooting close, which makes this lens ideal with its 9" minimum focus distance. Images are sharp, it focuses quickly, and it is lightweight. It is a great primary lens. I bought this lens for my D90 because 30mm is normal on the DX format, making this lens one of the best choices. It gives you a lot of room without distorting the image (on DX, at least). However, the build quality was disappointing. The inner barrel is fairly loose inside the outer barrel.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Lightweight, Quick Focus
  • Cons: Weak Casing

Poor image quality

Mr. F. I. Dudaniec "finndudaniec", Amazon
13 April 2014
  • Summary: Yes, it's wide but that's all I can say for this lens. Not bad as a macro but poor image quality when used wide. Disappointing buy.

Nikon use to do better than this...

Lars, Amazon
8 August 2011
  • Summary: I'm not sattisfied with the quality of this product. The image quality is not of Nikon standard. I bought this for trekking, because of the weight, but should have brought my Sigma 18-50mm instead. More heavy, but far better image quality. But the weight is low...

Was it a duffer??

David Warwick, Amazon
14 March 2009
  • Summary: Having just purchased this lens to complement my other Nikon lenses and avoid the use of a zoom lens for wider angle work Im sorry to say my particular lens is awful and going back !! . The definition of the pictures close up or of a more distant nature is so disappointing . I have used this lens for indoor work with and without flash ,for semi landscape work of moving subjects with settings of 640th at 5.6 to 6.3 so not wide open and I would have done better with a milk...
