Review of Nikon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G zoom lens

Summary: This is a very versatil and well made lens that is rated sharper than the newer version boasting an f2.8 lens. By purchasing this zoom lens used from Japan the price was a real bargain and the delivery was in three days; pretty amazing. I teach college level Digital Photography and I always stress the used lens bargains on Amazon because unlike a camera, a lens is a pretty basic commodity and unless scratched and abused, they work as well as new, but for much cheaper.
Summary: Great lens and works well on the D90, why on there when it is a full frame lens? Because soon I'm saving up for a D600 but until then I wanted a sharp lens to tie me over. I'm so happy I did, I trust doing my wedding shoots, senior shoots and concert shots with this lens. I would not recommend it if you're a hobby photographer. You can get an affordable prime (50mm) lens that's quicker and more sharper, for about $100 less.
Summary: All the positive reviews convinced me to buy this lens even though it was used and no longer being manufactured. The seller provided documentation that the lens had just been serviced by Nikon but I found the images to be soft.....not extremely sharp as noted in other reviews. I'm sure there are very good copies of this lens, I just didn't get one of them. Luckily, the seller was willing to take it back....the advantage of doing business with Amazon.
This lens is ideal for landscape, portraits, travel and portrait.

Summary: Nikon Zoom-Nikkor G ED-IF 24-85mm F/3.5-4.5 Lens, very nice! I'm sure, this lens is the best lens I own. It focuses fast and it is very sharp. SWM provides super-fast, super-quiet AF operation. M/A mode for quick switching between autofocus and manual focus operation. ED glass element and hybrid-type aspherical lens element for higher optical performance. IF (Internal Focusing) technology for smoother focusing and a better balanced handling.
Summary: For a lens that isn't made anymore this does a supurb job. Pictures are very clear and sharp. I got information about this lens from Ken Rockwell's web site, so I thought I would try it out myself. Am very happy with the results. Works very well on both my 5100 and 700.
Summary: This is a great lens... period! It is light and sharp and works like a charm on my D800. And did I mention that it is light? Obviously it is not a 24-70 f2.8, but its results are close. And who would want to take an expensive lens hiking or to the beach? This is a great alternative to big glass. WARNING: Do not confuse this model with the "D" which costs more and is not nearly as good, or the new VR model that is as good and costs three times more.
