Big disappointment!

Sports League Photographer, B&H Photo
8 October 2013
  • Excerpt: I rented this lens because it was so highly rated by others. I shoot sports league T&I so I thought this might be close to a good portrait lens that would allow me to zoom for those occasional "different" shots that required more room. I was set up and started taking test photos to see how the lens responded and behaved. To my utter disappointment, the lens had a difficult time in finding the focus, and 50% of the shots were out of focus.
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, Slow Focus

not this copy

  • Excerpt: I'm returning this one for exchange. At $500/hr for helicopter time, you want your lens to be sharp. All the way out to the corners. And without VR (this lens doesn't have it) you need all the speed you can get to fight the helicopter vibration. This copy is unusable below f11. For a $[$] kit lens, that might be ok. But not for this lens @ ~$[$]! Also, on the 36MP D800, you want a lens that is up to the task.
  • Pros: Has A Good Reputation, Pretty Good Iq In Center, Should Be A Good Lens
  • Cons: Bad Quality Control, Horrible Iq In Corners, Misaligned, No Vibration Reduction

I got a bad one and am returning it

Dave, B&H Photo
3 December 2012
  • Excerpt: Unacceptably horrible at the corners, even when stopped down as far as f5.6. Is only useable at f11. I need it for aerials, and the entire frame must be tack sharp. At f11 and with no VR, it would my life almost impossible. B&H,as usual, is great.
  • Cons: Bad Sharpness When ~ F11, Expensive

If it's bad, you'll know it!

  • Excerpt: General Purpose Reasonably well built (for the price) My sample is bad. Tested at marked focal lengths and full stops from 2.8 thru 8. Corners and short axis edges did not hold up except at 70mm. HUGE blue fringing from corners to 1/3 way in frame. Sharpnes in center never even approaches that of a 35-70 f2.8 D. Am replacing for another sample and will update this review. Right now I cannot recommend this lens. As always, great service from BH.
  • Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Cons: Blurry Focus

STUPID HEAVY

  • Excerpt: The size and weight of this lens far outweigh its usefulness. I sold my one because of this fact. The lens is fantastic optically and is very well built. The lens should come with a set of support wheels its so heavy. I would recommend getting a 35mm F2 or a nice 50mm F1.4D at a fraction of the price of the 24-70.
  • Pros: Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Heavy

  • Excerpt: when you take picture in higher ISO (6400), using f/2.8 and 3s exposure, you will find the light leaked from barrel distance window.

Disappointed

Amanda, B&H Photo
24 June 2010
  • Excerpt: I was very excited to upgrade from the Nikkor 28-70 2.8 to the Nikkor 24-70 2.8. However, upon first glance I was disappointed with the lens design. I feel when purchasing pro equipment the zoom should be fully encased in the lens body. It looks amateur as well as makes cleaning difficult and adds to wear and tear. I used the lens in a forest fire yesterday and cleaning the smoke and ash inside the barrel has proven difficult due to the design.
  • Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight
  • Cons: Difficult to Clean, Poor in Low Light, Slow Focus, Weak Casing

Masik-corporation, Onliner
5 February 2014

6/10

Naves, Onliner
4 April 2013
