Summary: Didn't like this lens! Focus is unpredictable, bad colors, bad shadows, greenish tones on the face shadows, 3.5 feels like 5.6, VR didn't make a big difference (used on D-700), only good in the bright daylight and for casual pictures. Get 24-85 f/2.8 instead.
Summary: For an all around lens with a good range for a variety of subjects indoors and out, this is a hard lens to improve upon. My only desire would be to see a bit more focal length on the high end, but this didn't stop me from selecting the lens as part of a B+H kit with a Nikon D700. Focus is sharp, light and color balance even, fairly quiet and fast to focus, and has a good high quality feel to the movement though the full focal length. Good value.
Summary: This product is a christmas gift for a friend. He is elderly but still likes to take quality wildlife shots with good glass. However the longer lenses with exceptional glass are way to heavy for him, this lens fit the bill perfectly. I tested it and the clarity of the shots are just about as good as my 70 - 200 2.8 canon lens!! I was thrilled with the results and the weight wont be an issue for him. wonderful lens [...
Summary: This is an amazing lens. If you read Ken Rockwell he says this is among Nikon's worst lenses, HE IS WRONG!!! The VR is addictive! The lens quality is as good as it gets. True there is no do all zoom however, with this zoom you will find the need for a smaller camera bag, I did. I use this on my F5 and my D700, and it is great. With the ability of the D700 and it's high ISO, with this lens you can shoot the street at night even at 5.6.
Summary: I'm a photo major in college and this is my first digi. After looking at different sites and lens for months a few of my professors and the photo manager and I decided on this lens. It is amazing! It is a great starter lens for photo majors and has amazing zoom qualities!
Summary: I have this lens on my D50 over 90% of the time. The only thing it's missing is maybe another 30mm on the top end. This is by far the crispest and most versatile Nikkor zoom lens I have owned in my 50 years as an amateur photographer. The VR capability is outstanding. I have taken to leaving my tripod in the trunk.
