Summary: I've got my copy for D90 and compared with zoom lens 16-85mm at 24mm for indoor portrait. It's very disappointing. The 16-85mm is visibly superior at 24mm than this 24mm prime including sharpness, chromatic aberration, distortion. On the other hand, this 24mm prime is better at focus speed, low light performance (f2.8 vs f4.5) and weight. Even if mine is a below average sample, it may still be useful sometimes.
Summary: I personally think this is a good lens, when it comes to image quality. When it comes to usability, it's a pain in the.. For example, you took a few pictures, lowered the camera vertically to see the images, and the lens will slide down each time, so if your doing sports, the amount of times you will have to format the shot will drive you nuts. It's a great lens if you have patience..
Summary: The optical design on this lens is outdated ! High vignetting at f/2.8 and clearly visible cromatic abberation when used on a D-SLR. The lens performs as a modern mediocre zoom lens. Not what you would expect from a Nikon prime.Resolution is decent.
