A Huge Disappointment

  • Summary: I'll start off by saying that I'm a full time working professional. I work day in and day out with a variety of different Nikon equipment and this is the first time I've felt compelled to leave a review for anything in the system. The short: I don't believe this lens is up to the task of being paired with the newest generations of Nikon camera bodies and suffers from major softness issues and horrible CA.

Worthy goal, hopelessly flawed

  • Summary: This lens was one reason I switched to Nikon from Canon: I was upgrading to full frame, and wanted a portrait lens with good bokeh. The distant background is beautifully rendered by this lens, as its "defocus control" promises. Unfortunately, this is achieved with extreme axial chromatic aberration near the focal plane, so regions just behind the focal plane gain green borders and just in front gain purple.
  • Pros: Strong Construction
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, Heavy, Slow Focus
