Excerpt: 1. This is good lens; typical Nikon; not bad, defective, or anything like that. Takes decent snapshots. Turns your Nikon 1 into a point-and-shoot.2. But... the 1.8 lens is just a couple of bucks more; and it's fantastic; superior; amazing; out of the ordinary. So, I can't recommend a good lens when you could spend just a few bucks more and get a great lens.3.
Excerpt: Really more 3.5 stars. Comparing it to the 10-30mm 3.5-5.6; this f/2.8 is about 2/3 of a full stop wider. Unfortunately it's also pretty tight mounting onto the camera. It eventually loosens up, but it also drops little metal shavings on the inside of the mount of the camera as you repeatedly mount and unmount it. Would need to wipe the inside edge of the camera mount, don't use a blower, who knows where those little things are getting blown to.
Summary: This lens gets great reviews on Amazon. I'm going to rain on that parade. I just don't get it. I love primes and that's why I bought this one but I'm not wowed at all. The big advantage is size, this is the smallest lens for the CX system. That said, this lens is still pretty big when compared to the similar focal length and faster Panasonic 14mm F2.5 for M4/3. Perhaps I could rave about this lens if the "kit" 10-30 wasn't sharp.
This lens main advantage, but you may notice some shortcommings

Summary: The pancake lens minimises the working camera package for portability. However, it is annoying that inexplicably it is not provided with the special very low profile hood and cap despite the significant official price of the lens, when equivalent ones can be bought at a fair price for a few pounds including international postage! It also does not have the vibration reduction of the other lenses despite the VR symbol still being used in some websites.
Schade.
