Lot of fun
21 March 2013
Summary: This lens is a lot of fun for hundreds of dollars less than nikons fisheye. Fairly well made and should do the job considering I will probably only use this lens 10% of the time why spend $1000 for super wide and distorted shots. Did I mention not only was the price great but I got free shipping!
Excerpt: This lens is a lot of fun, and you can swap the other Lensbaby optics (Glass, Double Glass, Plastic, Pinhole/Lensplate, etc.) into this. I like it because it has a straight body, whereas the other lensbaby bodies are angled. It is lightweight and well-built. My only knock is that it's manual-focus only.
Excerpt: I recently purchased the Lensbaby Scout, Manual Focus Fisheye SLR Camera Lens for Nikon F. This little lens comes with an interchangeable fisheye lens and is making me see things very differently. It focus from 1/2" an inch & weights next to nothing, so it may take a little getting use to if you normally have a larger tele/zoom lens attached to your camera. I've been on two outings & have taken about 170 pictures using it.
Summary: This is a good lens for a very reasonable price. I was looking for a fisheye for an effect lens, not an every day shooting experience. I am pleased with the decision, and it was well worth the price paid. Since the lens is strictly manual focus I may upgrade my camera's focusing screen to help with the up-close shots.
Summary: Just had a play with the scout - easy to put together, easy instructions... And if your diopter is calibrated, great shooting experience. Perfect for first time fish-eye buyers and experimental photogs. The swappable aperture is a good idea to keep costs down, but you wouldn't think it's a cheap bit of kit just by looking. Rattles around slightly when attached to my a65, but not too bad.
Summary: I bought the Lensbaby for a bit of fun, not really sure what to expect. I have a Canon 60D, so not full frame, so I feel I should point out now that if you're not using a full frame sensor you won't get the full fisheye circle. My partner has a 5D and they get the full circle effect on theirs. Also, this is only 160 degree optic whereas most serious fisheyes are 180, so you don't get quite the same effect that you do with a top of the range lens.
