Summary: Read these reviews carefully because Minolta has made a number of 70-210 lenses and the quality varies quite a bit. Things to look for are (1)a metal mount (2) The "F" numbers (3) the lens color. In general the 70-210 F4 is the highest quality and should sell for $100+, the black 70-210 F4.5-5.6 with metal mount is close by not as desirable, price is around $50. The remainder of the 70-210 editions are plastic toys with little resale value - pick them up for under $30.
Summary: This lens is lighter and cheaper than the beercan, and it is a good lens. You must expect to use it with a tripod; it is really shaky in the extended ranges without one. A tripod is always a good idea, anyway. It's a good beginner zoom lens.
Summary: Excellent telephoto lens snaps some pretty crisp pictures. It takes a bit of getting use to for focusing but after a few hours of practice I could focus successfully on the go. I use it for mostly landscape so far and the sunset colors look great over the mountains.
