Great for outdoors, for indoors invest more

Summary: I bought this to replace a similar range old Tokina that was legacy from my non-digital SLR era. While Tokina worked fine, it was heavy and sluggish on auto focus and you have to be careful about handshakes at max zooms. On contrary, this lens is light, fast and with image stablizer results are amazing. I have mainly used it for outdoor portraits and never been disappoited.
Summary: The Canon lens is a first quality product, but the other items included are only of fair quality. These items are of course functional, but brands one has not heard of and optics just within the acceptable range? That being said, these items were included for little more than what one would pay for the Canon lens alone, (even less than many retailers), and are therefore essentially "freebies", so how could one complain?
Conclusion: In love with this lens. First day of use this morning at Green Cay Wildlife center in Boynton Beach FL. Amazing ease of use. While Auto-Focus using the dc motors is way too slow, does excellant putting the unit into MANUAL FOCUS and doing it the old fashioned way..... very fast, quick pic taking with birds moving everywhere!!!!
Conclusion: Been using this lens for over a year. I've found the AF is much faster, more accurate (sharper) when you choose a single AF point. You will be very hard-pressed to find a better Zoom Lens at this price.
Pros: well above average sharpness, relatively inexpensive, good build quality
Summary: This lens is a a little bit soft in resolution and slow to reach optimum focus. I have used it to cover local events that attracted large crowds. It's long telephoto zoom enabled me to get nice shots from a distance, but sometimes they were out of focus and could not be used (possibly my fault for trying to hurry the focus). When shooting people in crowds, a slight softness actually improves their appearance.
Summary: Received exactly what I had ordered, on the schedule promised by Amazon and used it the same day. It worked as advertised with no problems so far. It has enhanced what I can do and worked buth in an indoor fashion and at the beach. I have already gathered lots of memories that are forever engrained in photos from a distance which I could not have had with my original lens.
Summary: I can't say much for this other than for the price, this is a good lens to start with at the entry level. Since you literally get what you pay for with any lensing device, you will not get the best quality in the world. However, I am happy with the pictures it takes given what I payed for it. Additionally, it works just like the kit lens that came with my Canon, so there really isn't any learning curve; it's easy to use right away.
Summary: I bought this lens to take to Africa because I knew I would need to take longer distance shots than the 18-55 Lens that came with the camera can offer. I got a lot of great shots and am very pleased with the performance. Like a lot of reviews on here I found it difficult at times to get used to the auto focus, it is kind of slow. I missed a few shots of things going by quickly, but I knew it would take this larger lens longer to focus.
