Avoid this lens if you want sharp images

  • Excerpt: I bought this lens from B&H about 2 years ago for medium telephoto shots on treks and backpacking; its light weight was a sales point given that I'd be carrying it for long miles. But the frustration it's given me in two areas makes the purchase an unwise one, in retrospect: 1) It's VERY soft at the upper end of its focal range; I have yet to produce an acceptably sharp image above ~ 175mm length (and I almost always use a tripod).
  • Pros: Lightweight
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, External focus, Unacceptably soft

Horrid!

  • Conclusion: I bought this lens about 8 months ago. I was low on cash but wanted a lens with a focal length in the 100~300mm range. I opted for this one. I assumed that it would be an extension on my 18-55mm kit lens that came with my Rebel XSi. I have been sorely disappointed. The lens is able to zoom a great distance, but every picture comes out grainy. I have only been able to print a small number acceptable picture from the lens.
  • Pros: Lightweight
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, Slow Focus

  • Excerpt: Most pictures are very soft, towards the long end, between 200-250mm, 95% pictures are out of focus regardless whether used with or without IS on, shooting from hand or tripod I'm very disappointed with the purchase.
  • Pros: Lightweight
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, Slow Focus
