Not up to Canon standards.

Summary: I was incredibly disappointed with this order. Yes, it is a great price, but the lens I received had an incredibly jerky zoom mechanism. I have used this same lens on my Canon 50D previously and had not experienced this jerkiness, which made it is impossible for me to use as my all-purpose lens. The accessories were in good condition, but I bought this package for the lens.
Conclusion: I received this lens with my Canon T2i as a birthday present. In the beginning, I couldn't really tell the difference between this and any other lens. As I gained experience, I found out exactly how limited this lens can be. I found out that it absolutely hates anything but the most perfect lighting conditions. If your subject is slightly too bright or slightly too dark it refuses to focus, leaving you to focus manually which can be a bother under certain circumstances.
Excerpt: Kit lens quality.[...] The sharpness is just not there. The IS is great, but you need the IS because it is not a very fast lens. It might work for a casual user, but for a hobbyist or someone just getting started...get better glass.
Summary: I own a lot of cannon lenses (although this was by far the cheapest one I ever decided to buy). My other canon lenses are pro "L" series lenses - however I wanted a slightly wider lens for one specific job and thought I would try this one. Bad decision - I returned the lens - very poor build quality - although it probably works fine (I didn't get that far!).
Summary: This lens iscomplete crap, very very slow AF, useless in low light and very noisy. It just hunts constantly. The filter attachment also rotates, making it unusable with polarizer or grad filters. The maximum aperture of f/3.5 at 18mm isn't too bad but as soon as you get past 40mm, it drops down to a nasty f/5.6 rendering this lens pretty much useless in low light without a flash. It also isn't particularly sharp and suffers quite badly from chromatic aberration.
Summary: Hello! I'm very dissapointed with this lens. I'm not sure if it's a proper canon lens. If it is canon, is very bad one. It does not matter how much I try to focus, it never gets a sharp and crispy focus, it has like a milky layer and believe me I know how to focus. Even with autofocus, still not good. The lens came in a withe box, and inside a plastic bag.
