Incorrect photo for product title.

Andrew V, Amazon
29 September 2014
  • Summary: Beware of the listing, as the photo does not match the title. There are several versions of this lens which appear similar, and the photo is of the earlier non-"USM" version, which many of the listings are selling. The lens you get may match the picture, but you won't be getting the "USM" version. Verify with the seller which lens you will be receiving.

hi

Kiyoshi Mukai "Overchan2", Amazon

  • Summary: I own 3 lens. This is the worst, Feels and looks like garbage. Focus is pretty bad but Ok, Have tryed the IS version, way better than this even without IS on, Note that the IS one has a bigger front element. Also zoom is awkward, Overall. Things to think about: 1.-This lens has a P&S quality. 2.-Try to get the IS one. 3.-If more money then get Sigma 18-50 2.8-4 OS 4.

A good place to start

Sean M. Scully "Sean Scully", Amazon
24 August 2009
  • Summary: If you are just starting out as a photographer and this is your first DSLR, this wide angle to medium telephoto zoom lens will do just fine. A focal length of 18 millimeters on the wide end of this zoom is the same as 28.8 mm on a full frame camera. The edge sharpness suffers when used with a wide open aperture but improves as you stop down a few f-stops.

Was good when first purchased...

Sarah Mahaffye, Amazon
20 April 2008
  • Summary: I have this lens, because it came with my Rebel XT. It was the first SLR camera I ever owned, and good deal that it came with it's own lens. Well, when I first had it... it worked pretty good. My pictures were pretty sharp and good quality. NOW, it looks like I take pictures with a child's toy digital camera. I use it on my 20D now, and it is HORRIBLE. My pictures are blurry and not sharp, you can see EVERY pixel. I mostly shoot models, and it's NOT cutting it anymore.

why get an amazing slr and a mediocre lens?

eRamos, Amazon
8 May 2007
  • Summary: This lens takes ok pictures, by ok I mean that if you want your $700 SLR to take pictures like a $300 point-and-shoot, then this lens is fine. But for anyone who has an SLR for any other reason than to look cool (say, you are serious about photography and want to learn more), there are much better lenses out there.

Slow and not wide enough

Alberto Vargas, Amazon
26 November 2006
  • Summary: This is a slightly upgraded version of the Canon Rebel / 30D kit lens - you are much better off just getting it as part of a kit (like I did) or buying someone's used kit lens on the cheap. Buying this as a separate lens boggles the mind, however. Pros: useful range for casual daily situations and one-piece solution for travel Cons: not wide enough; way too slow (I am referring to aperture, not focusing) If you need to have this zoom range, there are other Canons or...

Not very good. But what do you expect?

Matt, Amazon
23 December 2005
  • Summary: This is the standard kit lens that comes with the Rebel and 20D. This lens is most definitely built to a budget. And does it ever show! Completely inexcusable is the lack of numbering of ANY kind on the focusing ring. This is VERY frustrating when it comes to taking pictures of distant objects, since you cannot simply set it to infinity. Also, because it goes into macro mode beyond infinity, you cannot simply crank it all the way to one side!

Perikles, objektiivi
23 December 2013
  • Excerpt: Melkoisen huonopiirtoinen objektiivi paitsi telepäässä lähelle tarkennettuna. Toimiikin kohtuullisen hyvin makrona, vaikkei oikea makro olekaan. 18mm lähes käyttökelvoton hurjan tynnyrivääristymän ja heikon piirtokyvyn takia. Jos eivät rahat kalliinpaan objektiiviin riitä, kannattaa mieluummin hankki 50/1,8 kiinteä, joka ominaisuuksiltaan ihan eri planeetalta vaikka suunnilleen saman hintainen. Tosin ei 100 eurolla kyllä parempaakaan zoomia saa, ei edes käytettynä.
  • Pros: Hinta, Toimii yllättävän hyvin makro-objektiivina

  • Excerpt: Tämä linssi tuli Canon EOS 400D-kameran mukana.

  • Excerpt: Tuli Canon 400D:n mukana.
  • Pros: Kevyt, Kompakti, Soveltuu hyvin kukkien kuvaamiseen
