Summary: I have a canon rebel T3i and the lens that came with that camera, after a year, ending up locking. This new I ordered is pretty good as a replacement lens for picture taking. I would recommend anyone who needs a replacement lens or an extra one and you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars. Order this lens!
Summary: I bought this lens as the camera that I received did not come with the standard "kit" lens. After some searching online, and visiting local vendors, I found this option. Despite being refurbished, this lens functions beautifully. Even the packaging was well done - only thing it was missing was its lens cap (never advertised as having one, in hindsight). Love my new lens, and it has already seen some action.
Summary: I want to start out by saying that this is a pretty decent bi for a new photographer. And at just over $100 at the time of writing this review you can't go wrong if you want to practice with a wide-angle lens. But I might recommend trying the 50mm "Nifty fifty" lens located here: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Standard AutoFocus Lens - Gray Market Now my reasoning for this.
Summary: I broke the lens that came with the camera so I had to buy a replacement. I use this lens for photographing people as well as landscapes. There are better lenses for both applications, but this one is a nice compromise between the two. It doesn't do very well with photographing smaller things like flowers, bugs or birds, but that is not what this lens was intended for.
Summary: I lost my Cannon 17-55 mm f 2.8 lens recently. I bought this much less $ Cannon 18-55 mm f 3.5-5.6 IS lens. Surprisingly, the 18-55 mm lens gives very sharp and beautiful images, even at night, which are almost as good as those from 17-55mm. I am very happy with it, and higly recommend.
