  • Summary: Good for someone new to photography. But honestly terrible lens compared to the STM version I have had this for a year and just I really dislike it. Every time I used a different lens other then this one it was like wow my lens sucks honestly just get a used STM version or a 50mm

Sketchy

Amazon Customer, Amazon
2 March 2016
  • Summary: The package is not the original one. Kinda sketchy, and it feels light too. The material used is not even close compared to my lenses. But works fine. I just dont feel thats the worth of my money.

Cheap lens = cheap photos!

Annallon, Ciao
3 July 2009
  • Excerpt: Must make this clear that it is the older version of 18-55mm before they upgraded it to fit the 450D and above. So 400D and below. ======== When starting out in photography; most people get entry level camera body like 400D Canon EOS, this lens comes with the body to form the basic kit lens.
  • Pros: Worst lens for a professional but good to start out with; cheap; easy to learn with;
  • Cons: Worst lens for a pro, frontal element rotates,

Kitsch Kit Lens

davecham, Ciao
26 December 2008
  • Excerpt: I have both purchased and won several entry level Canon DSLR's, each of which have been furnished with this 'kit' lens. It is quite obviously the result of cost-cutting exercises at Canon in an effort to keep a headline grabbing low prices for the camera/lens combinations as advertised in the...
  • Pros: Keeps the dust off the sensor !
  • Cons: Poor quality .  Poor build quality, Poor performance .

Not a good buy

ModelMaker, Amazon
23 November 2008
  • Summary: This lens is delivered with no box - I'm 99% certain it's the kit lens that normally comes with the camera. It is not marked as being a later generation product. Read any review and they all say that the Canon kit lens aren't great and I agree with that. The sharpness just isn't there.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm Zoom Lens

ferocity, Ciao
14 June 2008
  • Excerpt: I recently purchased a sweet Canon 400D/XTi Rebel from Amazon.co.uk (£45 cashback!) and this standard zoom lens (Canon EF-S 18-55mm) came with it. As far as I know, you cannot purchase the Canon EF-S 18-5mm on it's own, as it's designed specifically to be sold with the 400D/XTi Rebel package.
  • Pros: Cheap and light
  • Cons: Grainy photo quality, low zoom
