Summary: I received this lens with my Canon T2i as a birthday present. In the beginning, I couldn't really tell the difference between this and any other lens. As I gained experience, I found out exactly how limited this lens can be. I found out that it absolutely hates anything but the most perfect lighting conditions. If your subject is slightly too bright or slightly too dark it refuses to focus, leaving you to focus manually which can be a bother under certain circumstances.
Summary: My rating is based on an overall comparison of all available lenses and does not reflect the price of this lens. This lens is intended for users who aren't after top notch image quality and for them this lens offers an excellent value especially when purchased in a kit. For them, I'd rate this lens about 3 1/2-4 Stars Overall image quality approaches good for most situations although it seems to suffer quite a bit of purple fringing when high contrast exists.
Summary: ok so i know it comes with the rebel xsi and it's only 50 bucks more in most cases, however if you shoot full zoom and at 5.6 it's damn near unusable for sharpness sake. 2.8 would give a huge amount of difference. think flash and soft light vs. deer in the headlights white hot and black background. if you are just using this to walk around in i guess it might work...but did you not just step up to a dslr camera?
Summary: The main reason why I purchased this lens was for a temporary wide angle lens while I waited for my 10-22mm. I figured it couldn't be TOO bad despite all the negative reports. Well, it has bad reviews for a reason. I have tried and tried to get maximum focus/sharpness out of this lens, but to no avail. I quickly parted ways with it and this lens will never see my camera again.
Summary: This lens is delivered with no box - I'm 99% certain it's the kit lens that normally comes with the camera. It is not marked as being a later generation product. Read any review and they all say that the Canon kit lens aren't great and I agree with that. The sharpness just isn't there. You can do no better than put your money into decent lenses and so I would recommend that you avoid this and look elsewhere.
