Conclusion: I have had this lens for 5 years and before I bought it I was hesitant because of some bad reviews. My copy of the lens has been great. I have never had a problem and the pictures are razor sharp. I use it on a Canon 50D and T2i. It also focuses fast.
Summary: As descibed, mint condition....fast auto focus.....image stablization great in low light. I hesitated in buying due to some negative reviews I had seen, but this lens is terrific. Sharp images through entire focal range. Quality build much better than kit lens. Some distortion at 17mm, but because I am mainly a landscape/nature photographer no problem. I have owned Canon cameras and lenses since the 70's, I have not purchased a Canon product that has disappointed.
Conclusion: I bought this lens in 2005 when I bought my 20D. I use it as my everyday walk around lens and it has traveled with me around the world. Never a problem. Never a hiccup. The only reason I would change this lens is if they made the same lens in an "L" series. If I can tear myself away from it I am going to send it in to be cleaned so I can use it with my new 7D.
Conclusion: I bought the lens with a Canon 40D purchase and more recently have used it on a Canon 7D purchased early last year. This has been a sensational all-around lens for outdoor and occasional indoor shooting. My greatest interest is for outdoor scenic capture, as a serious amateur. Functions well in all light ranges I deal with. Have had no electronic or mechanical issue mentioned elsewhere after 4 years of shooting.
Pros: great image quality excellent is. primary lens, stays on my camera except when tele needed.
Summary: Overall pretty happy with the image quality. Does have some weight to it but thats all right. Used it on Canon T3i. With the minium of F of 4 its not ideal for taking night shots and video but lower the aperture number the more your gonna pay.
Summary: Five Star product. Bought it on auction at 236 bucks and the value of the lens is around 600 plus taxes new so the lens is flawless, not even any dust, like new and the lens itself is in my opignion way better than the 18-55mm or even the IS version. The Image stabilization is better on this lens and the added 30mm of zoom is realy appreciated. Not a L series lens on image quality but still a good kit lens remplacement for someone who wants more of his camera body.
Summary: I need was a standard lens for majority of the events in my photographic life. I have solved to gain it and not to mistaken. The Seller from South Korea has sold me goods which is made in Japan. This country by known quality to its product. My lens - not exception. The Excellent thing for my camera (Canon EOS 60D). Thank you seller and thank you auction eBay for mediation!
Conclusion: This has quickly become my most used lens. Goes from close ups (portraits) to landscape easily. Focus is very fast, and pictures are very sharp for a non-L. IS works like a charm. Good overall feel. I haven't (knock on wood) had any of the reported problems. I agree with the remark about cap replacement. Be careful. I, too, wish it was faster, but I guess that's why they make L lenses. For the money, this is one great piece of equipment.
