Auto Focus Problems

Paul, B&H Photo
27 August 2013
  • Excerpt: I just had my third auto focus failure with this lens. Will be sending it in again for repair. Lens is excellent and it has been my workhorse, but when it fails to auto focus while you are in the field on a shoot, it becomes a failure lens!

Image stabilizer issue

Tazzman270, B&H Photo
24 April 2012
  • Excerpt: Had this lens for 4 years. IS failed in 1st year. It would vibrate / chatter when trying to focus. Canon repaired under warranty in 2009. Same problem again started last April 2011. Finally got it in for repair this April - repair will be $250.00 . Lens is rarely used and would not recommend.

Bad distortion

Art Fan, Canon
23 April 2012
  • Excerpt: Warning! This lens suffers from BAD barrel and pincushion distortion. It is the only Canon lens I've ever returned. The EF 24-105 f/4.0L IS USM is FAR superior.

Disappointed

Debb41, B&H Photo
4 December 2011
  • Excerpt: I was very excited to get this lens after the reviews I read. Really wanted this focal length zoom with the f/2.8 and IS for my 7d and that's why I went with this lens instead of an L series. I've tried this lens at every f stop and with mirror lock-up, tripod, etc.

Dust Sucker!

Stephen Selph, Amazon
7 February 2011
  • Summary: I am on my second copy of this lens. Both lenses accumulated significant dust underneath the front element within one week of owning this lens. It has a very poor feeling zoom operation. It's impossible to zoom slowly and evenly while shooting video.

User Review

KansasA, Adorama
28 February 2010
  • Excerpt: I really thought this was a must have lens but after using it for a month or so I'm just not impressed with the clarity of the shots. Maybe I'm too used to my 50 & 100mm primes? For the price I just don't think it's worth it.

NOT the best lense for Canon DSLR

SpeedRacer, Amazon
6 July 2009
  • Summary: Purchased this lense for my wife, she is a professional photographer, so she knows what she is doing. Took one picture with this lense and said something is not right. She played with her camera for about an hour trying all kinds of different settings to get the lense to meet her expectations.

The Amp Man, B&H Photo
8 May 2009
  • Excerpt: I purchased this lens to upgrade my kit lens on my Rebel EOS camera.Right out of the box this lens has produced very poor results. The kit lens actually preformed better in most cases. For the money they charge one should get a better built product or at least one that can produce.I have sent the lens...
