The Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM features image stabilization technology that is important especially in macro photography. Shift camera shake and angular camera shake affect both the image formed on the sensor and the image shown in the viewfinder. This happens especially when shooting at 1x , since the inability to properly compose and focus due to a shaky image in the viewfinder makes it difficult to record sharp images. Image Stabilization technology found in Canon range of lens works by using a floating lens element that is moved orthogonally to the optical axis of the lens using electromagnets. Vibration is detected using two piezoelectric angular velocity sensors (often called gyroscopic sensors), one to detect horizontal movement and the other to detect vertical movement.
