Summary: This is is a great lens for the price. I have an older rebel, and the kit lens broke. This one is definitely a step up, the image quality is fantastic. And it's only a little more expensive then an 18-55mm without image stabilization.
Summary: I bought this because the final lens does not turn. I shoot pictures through a spotting scope on occasion and due to the attachment of camera to scope via the threads on the end of the scope I needed one that didn't turn while focusing. An extra bonus is the square gel filters can be used, as well as a circular polarizer, because the lens won't shift the polarization out of alignment.
Summary: I purchased this from Enteric and through Amazon. It was purchased as a refurbished lens but it was brand-new and is working perfectly. Packaging and shipping are second to none. Everything was described as the seller said it would be, oh and thanks Joe from Enteric.....
Summary: I know this is a beginner lens, but I got this to replace my overused and broken Canon 18-55. The new STM motor is great. I was so silent that I thought it wasn't working. Took me by surprise. It'd good for the price I got it. Much less barrel distortion at 18mm. Super smooth focusing ring with rubber (unlike the old version). Great for those who want pretty much silent focusing during video on the T5i and so on.
Summary: I've long been a lens snob. This lens was beneath me. It didn't have a red ring. I have a T4i with an 18-135 as a backup camera to my 6D. I mostly use a 17-55 f/2.8 on the T4i when I do use it. Purchased this on a whim to use with the SL1 body I picked up for cheap. I was pleasantly surprised. Much lighter than the 18-135 or 17-55 and the only two lenses I know of that are lighter are the 50 1.8 and 40 STM. This lens is whisper quiet as one would expect from an STM lens.
