    The Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is a very desirable lens and, surprisingly, a very affordable one. Both contrast and resolution are very good straight from f/1.8 and excellent at medium aperture settings. On APS-C DSLRs there's only a moderate degree of vignetting at f/1.8 and beyond it's a non-issue. Neither distortions nor lateral CAs are something to worry about in field conditions. Read more

    I really like this lens. Sometimes, on weekend trips, I will take only this lens, and it has proved to be a very nice choice. I would not recommend it if you have landscapes in mind. But for portraits, I like it better than my 50mm f/1.8, and that's saying a lot. Read more

    I use the product primarily for taking portraits. Manual focus tends to require more time but the lens provides a great bokeh with its high aperture capability. Read more

    I have really only had this lens for a day, so perhaps i am still bedazzled by its awesomeness...i haven't shot in any overly bright settings yet so have experienced the vingetting or abberation that others have commented on. still, those things don't seem to be a big deal to anyone who owns this lens.     i love to catch portrait and 85mm is one of the best lens for such kind of photography , fast and really good out put . you can put your subject in front and with 1.8 wide aperture you can easily blur your back ground or can increase your depth of field. what i hate for it is that you can't get a good picture of background with this lens. Its focus adjustment is via a rear focusing system with USM (Ultra Sonic Motor) with closest focusing distance at 0.85m / 2.8 ft. The lens’ filter size is 58 mm. It has a magnification of 0.27 - 0.15 with Extension Tube EF 12 II and 0.44 to 0.32 with Extension Tube EF 25 II. The lens comes with ET-65III lens hood and is compatible with LH-B12 hard case, ES-C13/LP1014 soft case, 5 GF Holder III (Hood III) or 4 GF Holder IV (Hood IV). Features

The Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is a practical medium telephoto lens with delineation and portability. It has features that produce sharp and clear images at all apertures. The lens has been designed to give background blur, thereby bringing subject into crisp view. The ring-type ultra-sonic monitor (USM) and f/1.8 aperture helps the subject zip into focus in the viewfinder. And because the front lens group does not rotate during focusing, special filter effects are not affected.
