At almost a third of the price of the big brother lens, comparisons are a little unfair. This smaller, lighter, slower version is a very nice lens for the money and produces excellent results. Being that much smaller and lighter, it makes a good companion for some of the smaller cameras in Canon’s line up such as the 20D and the 350D without the price and weight penalty of the top end lens. And you still get L glass into the bargain! As with many of Canon’s older... Read more
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM is one of Canon's most affordable L-quality lenses and is a good value for your money. Image quality, build quality and overall feel of the lens are outstanding. So whether you are an amateur or a professional, buying this lens will not make you regret your decision. It may, however, influence you to start buying other, more expensive L lenses (but that is not our problem ;-) We only wish that Canon made more L lenses that were as high quality... Read more
Canon currently makes four 70-200mm lenses. Take your choice of f/4 or f/2.8 and with or without image stabilization . I also have a detailed review of the 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS and 70-200mm f/4 L IS version. This is the least expensive: the f/4 without stabilization. It sells for around $600. This is the lens to get for daylight use where you want the lightest, least expensive tele zoom yet still want a fast and excellent lens. It is ideal for daytime sports because of... Read more
for its 6.8" (172mm) length. I more frequently use larger diameter lenses, so this is one of the 70-200 f/4's instantly recognized features for me personally. It is not a bad thing - just different. I'm sure those with small hands appreciate this feature. Read more
I like this Canon white color body, sometimes made people look back and you felt great of it. People noticed that you are serious with photography. And this lens is not heavy to carry around the neck for long time. I compared this lens w/ 17-85 f/3-5.6 IS and 28-135 f/3-5.6. The results was big different. Canon 70-200 f/4 is the champion! Even without IS. Try it and you'll see the result will blow you away! 67mm thread will safe you a lot of money for lens filter besides... Read more
This is an excellent, lightweight telephoto lens that takes crisp, sharp pictures. Why not a perfect "5?" It doesn't have IS, so unless you're using a tripod, pictures can be blurry. At my price point, however, IS wasn't an option at the time. If price is less of a problem for you, spring for the IS...you'll be happy you did. Read more
This was my first L series lens and really got me hooked on the L quality. You can definitely tell the difference, and on top of that the price for this particular one is well within a 'newbs' budget. The collar isn't included, but really the lens is light enough that its not needed. Read more
