Excerpt: I have used this lens for a few days now. Shot a bicycle event in very harsh sunlight, sunset sailboat races and twilight conditions . Surprising quality at such light weight. Very sharp at all apertures. Great contrast and color. I didn't have a lens hood on in some backlit and sidelit situations and had minimal lens flare. I used auto focus on tracking mode for a while and it worked well.
Pros: Fast / accurate auto-focus, Good Color Contrast, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Nice Feel To Focus-zoom, Very Sharp
Summary: Unable to get the automatic focus on this lens to work with my Canon D6 camera body. Have managed to get a few semi-decent photos using manual focus. But they are not sharp and bright. Everything I read about this lens before purchasing it told of how great the picture quality is but I have not found that to be so. Maybe the lens is defective? Have gone back to using my trusty 24-70 Canon lens so still do not have a fast zoom lens for distant shots.
Summary: I've been looking for this lens' range for a long time. I use it on my Canon 5D MK II and occasionally on my 60D (when I need the reach). I'm glad I chose this lens when compared to the F2.8. The F4 is about 1/3 the weight. The clarity and contrast needs no adjustments. The picture quality of the other lens makers in this same size just doesn't compare. This is a great lens to have in your bag.
Excerpt: I love this lens. I was torn between this and the 2.8, but ultimately I couldn't convince myself to spend twice as much. Maybe sometime. Anyhow, this lens is sharp, AF is very fast, and its not really all that heavy. Very happy.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Rugged
Excerpt: Used mostly for wildlife photography. This lens is extremely sharp, event with enlargements of photos taken at its maximum aperture of 4.0. Adjustments are extremely smooth and the moving parts well sealed against the elements. Considering the focal length the lens is quite light. Focusing is fast and accurate and there is no lens creep. I cannot think of anything that is not great about this lens.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
Excerpt: First the good news: this is an excellent, sharp, lightweight lens. I chose to add it to fill the gap between the 24-105mm and my prime 300mm. It is a good "street" lens on my 5d Mk III for grabbing detail shots and close-ups without the weight of its big brother, the f2.8. The not-so-good news for me was that out of the box it frequently failed to autofocus correctly (or in some cases, at all).
Excerpt: I've been trying to add to my gear over the years for my wedding lens arsenal, and I had been meaning to purchase this lens for quite some time.....I don't know WHY I waited. This lens fits beautifully into a problematic hole I had -- needed more reach so I could remain "in the background". This lens does it. Buy it, you won't regret it!
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Rugged, Strong Construction
