Great first "L" Lens

Carlos, B&H Photo
1 October 2013
  • Excerpt: On a Canon 60D, this lens is amazing. Built like a tank, it feels very well made. It is very nicely made as the zoom is inside the housing. Great as it does not extend the lens. I have used it for outdoor / action /sports / landscape shots and it has been unbelievable.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Strong Construction

Fantastic portrait lens

  • Excerpt: I have the 70-200mm f/2.8IS II USM also and I almost sold this lens when I got that one. But man am I glad I didn't. The 2.8 is a monster in size and weight. It's a beautiful lens, of course, but for most portrait work in a studio or on location, you'll find that shooting at f4 works perfectly well...
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction

Saved the day

  • Excerpt: Soon after this lens arrived I got the chance to shoot from a small airplane. Enormous vibration and wind against the lens. Of 250 shots, 150 were good, 50 were bad and 50 were TRIPOD sharp! And I am fussy.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Strong Construction

  • Summary: The images I got from this lens (traded up to the IS model) are stunning. The first ones i shot in comparison to ones from previous lenses were so good I almost peed myself. This is definitely my favorite lens.

Great Zoom/Why waste money on the f/2.8?

  • Excerpt: This is my second "L" series lens, and it is great! I debated on the f/2.8, but after reading other reviews I decided it wasn't worth it. The extra F-stop is not worth the extra grand.I have taken the 70-200mm f/4 to a few baseball games and a volleyball game.
  • Pros: Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Poor in Low Light
