Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS USM review by gabrielvines

  • Summary: I bought this lens for an annual spring journey to a National Park. I usually either buy or rent a 500mm f4, but I got a good deal on a used 600mm so I decided to give it a shot. On the plus side using the 600mm in conjunction with a 1.4X TC gave me incredible reach and really brought the animals in...
  • Pros: Super sharp + the range, oh the range!
  • Cons: If you touch this glass you start scratching it.

600mm super tele. lens

Ronald J. Snider, Amazon

  • Summary: Well constructed, but a little on the heavy side. Sharp images, fairly fast for a super tele. Like the full time manual focus capability along with the autofocus. Has improved my wildlife photo chances.

Canon 600mm f4 lens

  • Summary: This lens is razor sharp. Glass is clean. A little heavy (13 lbs.) but a good tripod or monopod will take care of that. Excellent.

Canon 400mm f/4.0

rbryan65, Ebay
10 September 2010
  • Summary: This is a fantastic lens for the appropriate application. Surfing shots or sports in general. It does weigh more than one may exspect and I would rec the appropriate monopod. I purchased the Manfrotto. You will also need an adapter for the attachment to the lens base. RB

Worth the Weight!

Charlie MacPherson "Charlie", Amazon
29 May 2009
  • Summary: I've owned this lens for most of a year now, and I am completely satisfied with it. Downsides - it's heavy at almost 12 pounds, and it costs half as much as a small car. It's like adopting a 12 pound child - if you're on a photo shoot, you have to take it everywhere.

Best Lens I've Ever Used

dsl1126, Ebay
1 May 2009
  • Summary: I've used many Canon lenses in my life. This is truly the best lens, Canon or not, that I've ever used in my life. The IQ is excellent when the lens is used by itself or with a 1.4x or 2x Canon Tele-converter. The colors that are rendered digitally are amazing.

Big Guns!

Longhorn "Longhorn", Amazon

  • Summary: This is a great lens for bringing things up close and personal. Has image stabilizer that works great. Bit on the heavy side. Recommend it as worth the expense and weight.
