Excerpt: This is a great macro lens. Seems a little flimsy compared to my other Canon lenses but it gets the job done. I love it paired with a ring flash. Works well to get a glamorous look while shooting people and portraits and evenly lights subjects of macro work.
Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight
Excerpt: I purchased this lens for its great image quality and compact size. I meets or exceeds my expectations in both areas. My only complaint is the build quality. This lens is made with cheap fealing plastc and the focus ring is very poorly damped.
Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight
Excerpt: Lighter, not as ruggedly built or as tight a construction, but a great value for macro photography where 50mm is ideal. Great lens to have if and when needed. No lens shade is included- and I can live with that- but it would have been nice.
Summary: I use this mostly for food photography, and it's a great lens. I originally used a 50mm f/1.8, but when it developed a defect in focusing, went for this macro lens version. Sometimes I miss the really low f-stops, but overall, I like it. It functions well as a non-macro lens as well. Somewhat slow to switch from close to far, and a little noisy, but nothing that's really bothersome.
