Conclusion: This lens worked for three months before it started binding whe focusing. It got to the point where the lens does not move at all to focus. It is all made of plastic. Go look at the higher priced 50mm lens and you'll see metal is used for the back of the lens versus the plastic in this one. This lens is a throw away lens. Do yourself a favor and save your money and get the higher priced quality 50mm lens.
Summary: over the years i always pick amazon warehouse over regular sellers they always send the best quality products......but when i got this lens the whole front was broken out of it.....there is no way that this happened during shipping the box was in perfect condition. im pretty disappointed. At least Amazon has returns. its just frustrating because i need this lens in a few days for a photo shoot....and now ill have to use my high F-stop lens instead...
Summary: Low quality. Cheaply made, Very noisy. If you really need a cheap f/1.8 prime lens for Canon system, you actually have no choice. This is the one. Otherwise, a little bit more money for EF 40mm f/2.8 STM is better one. I have no idea why Canon would made such a lens like this. In my mind, this lens is worth only $60. Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D is way better than this one.
Summary: This lens is definately not up to Canon standards! #1, it is not a USM lens, and focusing is labored...at best! If I had it do do over again, I would spring for the additional money and buy the Canon 50mm f1.4 lens instead. This one will never see the inside of my camera bag....
"Gray Market" UNWARRANTIED by Canon? Buyer beware.
29 January 2013
Summary: I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't understand what "Gray Market" meant. I just looked it up, and it basically is a item that was NOT MEANT to be sold where they are selling it. So, Canon will not be warrantying this for you. This is a failure by Amazon IMO. Amazon, in a attempt to protect their customers, should DEMAND "Gray Market" be replaced with "no warranty" I am all set paying $110.00 for a NEW item without a warranty.
Summary: Had to return the lens as it had a flaw inside the glass. It was chipped? right in the centre of the glass lens inside. It did arrive quickly and was shipped and packaged great, but the product was defective.
Very Poor quality, cheap built Lens. NOT RECOMMENDED.
9 December 2011
Summary: This is a very poor quality lens. It is made of cheap plastic and looks like it. The quality of the pictures it takes is poor. The auto focus does work well. I would NOT recommend this lens at all. Go the extra money and buy a decent model with a metal mounting bracket and a f 1.4 if not too high.
Summary: Very dissapointed, I used it once and it broke, it sounded like it was loose when I got it or very poorly made? so sorry I cant write a good report. just very sad, I thought I was buying a good thing now Im scared to purchase from it again..It might be becaused it was used??
