Excerpt: I bought this lens primarily for it's ability to focus on a single object while blurring everything else out in the background and it does just that. Beautiful images for specific shots but not as sharp and most would perfer to have.
Excerpt: I've used that lens for many years, and a lot of people keep asking me why wouldn't I switch to the L-series 50mm F1.2?Well, because the 1.4 is SO MUCH BETTER, and here's why: I has an outstanding glass quality and performance, it's only 1/3 of an f-stop darker than the L-series option.
Excerpt: This has been a fun addition to my 3 - other lenses, as well as being my first prime lens. I continue to be amazed by the ease of focus and sharpness of the images that are resulting. (I'm afraid to show a recent shot of my sister to her due to the clarity of the wrinkles on her face!)
Excerpt: I am a semi-professional photographer and I use a 50mm focal length often. It is very fast & quiet during auto focus, unlike the 50mm f1.8 from Canon. The build quality is solid! Green and purple fringing are often apparent at open apertures, but Lightroom will do a very good job at removing this.
Excerpt: This is a decent lens (see exhaustive testing all over the internet). For a standard walking-around AF-mode stills lens, it works great. But, as others have mentioned, the manual focus ring is a little...rumbly!?
