Photography Review

  • Summary: Ive owned this lens for 2-3 years and while its been good for low light with a Canon 5dMk 2, its build quality and reliability has not been good. Problems with focus jamming and rough manual focus was intolarable. I regretted not paying a bit more and buying a Sigma 50mm F1.4. Ive given this piece junk away now and bought a Sigma 50mm F1.4 which is excellent.
  • Pros: lightweight and sharp
  • Cons: poor contrast wide open, plastic feel, poor auto focus, unreliable

Love it -- learning to see all over agai

  • Excerpt: I recently decided to return to photography, and to focus on making my images match what I see. I have a Canon 28mm-135mm f/3.5 lens, but it wasn't getting the job done, and my pictures reflected that. Now I'm back in my first photography class in college, and I'm learning all over again how my 50D and my old Rebel bodies work! This lens is a great help in reminding me how to make great exposures.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Powerful Output

Excellent high aperture for portrait

  • Excerpt: Great for portrait with blurred background. At high aperture, it lacks sharpness a bit. Also fixed 50mm zoom forces you to be pretty far from your human object.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Lightweight
  • Cons: Weak Output
