Excerpt: Canon offers a pair of 35mm primes in its EF lens range - the EF 35mm f/2.0 and the 35mm f/1.4L USM (£1159). Of the two, the EF 35mm f/2.0 is by far the more affordable, costing £942 less than its L-Series stablemate. It's also fully compatible with all Canon D-SLRs, whether they have the EF or the EF-S lens mount.
Canon EF 35mm f/2 (full format) - Review / Lens Test Report
23 March 2008
Conclusion: The Canon EF 35mm f/2 is an old lens design but it's still a good one. The center resolution is very high throughout the tested aperture range. The border quality is usable at f/2 to f/2.8 and more than decent from f/4 onwards. The amount of vignetting leaves something to be desired at f/2 and also at f/2.8. Lateral CAs aren't something to worry about - the same goes for the moderate level of barrel distortion.
