Summary: I've now used this lens extensively for a couple of years and am very pleased. I later bought a longer zoom lens (150-500mm) and tried it for a couple of months, but have switched back to this lens for almost all distance work.
Summary: i got this lens specifically for shooting sports (soccer mostly), and I'm completely impressed! Most of the games are in the daytime, or in well-lit stadiums so the f4 was a great fit for me versus the much more expensive f2.8. If have the 70-200 f2.8 anyway. Quality is superb.
Summary: Bought this after lugging around my 100-400 for years on the hiking trail. Now I can take this lighter lens instead. I get great shots of wildlife. I do miss the variable range sometimes but don't miss the weight on my back and shoulders. Takes very clear images.
480mm (which is pretty decent for bird/wildlife photography)

Summary: Bought this lens used and use it on my Canon Rebel T3i (EOS600D). The 1.6 crop factor due to a smaller sensor extends the focal reach to approx. 480mm (which is pretty decent for bird/wildlife photography). However, this also affects the aperture in terms of depth of field.
Summary: I was debating between Canon 300, 400, 100-400 and Tamron 150-600... After trying all out... I guess I found the one I love... I attached a Canon TC 1.4x and everything was awesome. I got sharp pictures with all the tests that I conducted.
Summary: Awesome lens. Just buy it. Can't go wrong. its actually pretty light for a prime 300 lens. tack sharp. image stabilization is good, but I don't have the newer Is models so any IS is good to me! Colors are super saturated and wonderful. the only issue is that fact that it's a prime!
