  • Excerpt: So, I have had 2 different 70/200f4 IS L Lens and felt like i was just not getting that L Lens clarity, So they where returned and i ordered this and was weary about weather i was going to be happy with a lens that i can not zoom in or out with.

Excellent Lens

UKCowboy, B&H Photo
14 March 2016
  • Excerpt: I bought this to supplement my 70-200mm f/2.8 L for a somewhat greater reach in appropriate situations. I have had excellent results so far with both still and moving subjects. I tried moving subjects (Greater Sandhill Cranes) yesterday for the first time - handheld.

Outstanding images at 300mm

Trevis R., B&H Photo
4 January 2016
  • Excerpt: I needed a ~300mm telephoto lens for some well-lit indoor and outdoor events. The Canon 300/4 is just fast enough to be able to handle my indoor requirements, and of course works wonderfully outdoors. (Going to f5.6, like on some 70-300 zooms, would be insufficient for my indoor application.

Excellent lens for the price

Jack, Canon
19 December 2015
  • Excerpt: This lens is a real bargain. It is a serious professional lens, but since it has been in Canon's line-up for more than a decade, it can be bought for a really nice price. The AF is actually very quiet. Many people saying that AF is loud simply mistook the noise of the old IS system for the AF noise.

Light, Inexpensive, Beautiful

Lawrence M., Newegg
1 December 2014
  • Summary: Consider the following: The 300mm f4 is ~$1400 and weighs 1.2kg, the 300mm f2.8 IS II costs $6,600 and weighs 2.4kg. With the money saved one can buy a few other lenses or a good full frame body while ALSO saving the back aches associated with lugging 2.4kg of f2.8 glass around on all day...
  • Pros: This is an impressive lens which was released 1997 and is still in production because it is inexpensive, lightweight and only one stop slower than the f2.8 Canon lenses lenses at ~1/5th the cost
  • Cons: Photos produced with the 1.4 MK III extender look terrible in large formats/prints but acceptable at smaller formats (about the size of a sheet of paper). Just buy the 400mm instead of cheaping out on an extender and your photos will be professional quality.

I may as well weld this to my 5D3

Roscoe4321, Canon
13 July 2014
  • Excerpt: I have owned this lens for eight months and it, together with an EF 1.4x III, stay on my 5D Mark III more than 90% of the time. I absolutely love this lens, and picked it out to get a bit more reach over my EF 200 f/2.8L II (also a superb lens).
  • Pros: Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images

Excellent lense - Light and handheld

HFB, B&H Photo
6 June 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought the 1.4 extender to go with my 70-200 F2.8 . It bring the focal length to 280mm. But i wasn't happy with it because it wasn't too clear , not sharp. I lost alot of sharpeness. So i decided to get this one.
