Summary: When I bought a Canon 6D I wanted some quality lenses to go with it, so I started looking at the usual round of Canon lenses. I bought a couple of primes and then went scouting for a good zoom to walk around with.
Summary: This zoom debuted in 1996 as the kit lens for the EOS IXE/IX (APS). It was a popular lens well into the new millennium, but was finally discontinued in 2009. Due to its range and small size, the EF 24-85 3.5-4.5 USM enjoyed tours of duty as a travel lens on my EOS A2E, Elan 7E, 10D, Rebel XTi, 5D...
Summary: I've used this lens for nine years for product, wedding, event, portraiture, and fine art shooting. Here are my thoughts: Pros: * For a full-frame zoom, it's very compact * Also, MUCH lighter than the EF 24-70mm F/2.8 L if you can do without the 1-stop difference (it's just 12 ounces vs 2.2 POUNDS...
Summary: Purchased lens on Amazon and everything went just fine. Lens arrived in peach condition. Everything on the lens functions as it should and for the money; it gives a good focal range. Pictures taken with it are wonderful. The only reason it does not get a 5 is because, well I guess it isn't L glass.
Summary: This lens isn't being made anymore, but you can still buy it used. It is a gem of a lens. I started photography with a Rebel xsi, then went to a Rebel T1i and finally a 5D Mark II. The single change in my gear that made the most difference was buying a flash, but second to that was this lens.
