Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM: Review

Electronics Made Easy
12 December 2010
  • Summary: Overall, the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens is an expensive but worthy addition to the Canon SLR lens collection. Despite having autofocus and low-light issues, this model is among the best that a consumer can buy for a single, standard lens accessory. Needless to say, it is quite heavy, so if you plan to do traveling then you will want to consider a different model.
  • Pros: Powerful- improved lens design and new AF processor, Quality- high-quality elements ensure the best image capturing
  • Cons: Bulky- heavy, not for the traveling photographer, Problematic- minor autofocus and sharpness issues, Expensive- good value for lens but still pricey

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L - Review / Test Report

photozone.de
18 February 2008
  • Conclusion: The Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM L proved to be a worthy representative of the pro grade lens league ... if you can get a good sample. During the last two years four lenses has seen the lab with only one within specs - this is disappointing especially for a lens of this price class. If you´re lucky enough to get a decent sample you can expect a very high performance level, especially when stopped down a bit. Distortions, vignetting and CAs are well controlled.

Canon 24-70 mm

camerastuffreview.com
3 January 2010
  • Summary: The Canon 24-70 mm is built like a tank: large and heavy. In combination with the Canon 5D MK2 the Canon 24-70 mm yields a very high resolution. It's weaknesses are vignetting, distortion at  24 mm and 70 mm and chromatic aberration at 24 mm. They all can be corrected with software afterwards. In our final score, distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration weigh less than resolution. That's why the overall score for the Canon 24-70 mm is very high.

Canon 24-70 mm

camerastuffreview.com
13 November 2009
  • Summary: The Canon 24-70 mm is built like a tank: big and heavy. Owners of a Canon camera with an APS-C sensor get the highest resolution from their camera with this lens. However, many amateur photographers will probably prefer the cheaper, lighter and more compact Canon 24-105 mm, which has a larger zoom range in addition.
  • Pros: Large (2.8) fixed aperture, Indestructible, Extra sealed against dust and water
  • Cons: high price, Heavy and large, No image stabilization, Visible distortion at 24 mm and 70 mm, Resolution at 24 mm lower at the edges, Chromatic aberration at 24mm
