Great lens for everyday use.

Summary: Very excellent lens. I loved it from the day it has arrived. Now this is the only lens on my camera unless I'm shooting distant objects. Fantastic value for money. I'm using this lens to shoot my small baby and also nature photography.
Summary: I have to agree with those reviews that recommend this lens as a good choice for the traveler or backpacker that really only wants to take one lens. I have this lens, the 70-300 and a 300 fixed-all L series and this lens is on my camera 80% of the time. I find picture quality very good with generally bright, clear pics. I really came to appreciate this lens when I finally upgraded to the 5D body.
Summary: I bought this zoom in 2005. I did not like the 24-70 F2.8 to walk around. To big. The IS is incredible, IQ is oke and I love the range. That 35 mm extra at the end is very nice. I still think this is the most versatile zoom there is. Go on holiday, take this zoom and a EF 50mm F1.2L with you.
Pros: Very nice relative small and light walk around lens with perfect range on FF. If you chose one (zoom)lens to take along this is maybe the one. IS is nice.
Cons: Nothing special, F4.0 but that why it is small and light. Construction failure, my copy creeps like mad. I put an elastic string around the zoomring, that helps. But a lock would have been nice.
Summary: That's probably the best all-purpose lens I've ever used. Obviously, you can't compare it with a prime or with the 24-70/2,8, but if you're looking for a single lens to do everything, from landscapes to portraits, that's "the lens".
Summary: The lens has great photographic qualities and is very easy to use - after all, it is a premium Canon product. The only "drawbacks" are readily apparent and part of the "cost" of a lens like this: the size and weight. Bulky but totally manageable, at least in my hands. If you are petite or traveling you may want to go hoist this lens on your body at a local camera shop before signing on. You will find it performs very well.
Summary: It is an excellent lense--period. Very solidly build and hence a little heavy (can't have everything)for a travel lens. I am not an expert photographer and have this lense only for a few month. A few times I wished the lense would have a wider zoom range. But I relize that there is a trade-off between picture quality and zoom range. But 80% of all shuts I tend to do are covered with this lense.
Summary: Very versatile lens. It's not as sharp as prime lenses, of course, so if you're serious about taking photos, you'll still need to carry sharper primes. But for an all around, versatile lens when you're not sure what's going to happen, this one is great.
