  • Excerpt: This is a great lens. Well-built and super sharp. I bought this to complement my 100mm macro lens. Using this lens handheld with Canon MT-24EX Macro Twin Lite Flash produced some very sharp images with beautiful smooth background.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus

180mm canon macro better fit than Tamron

Edgardo, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: I ajm a careful buyer, painfully caraful. I borrowed from friends the Tamron 180 and the Sigma 180 (2.8). All three were very good. I could not use any without a tripod even using them as telephoto lenses. I decided for the Canon lens because i have a 5D Mark3 camera and since I really could not discern differences between the 3 lenses I opted for the one I knew would have optimal communication with my camera. I am very happy with my decision.
  • Pros: Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction

Great Macro Lens

24 December 2013
  • Excerpt: Purchased this lens to supplement my 100mm macro lens. This lens adds a bit of extra telephoto to capture macro subjects from a greater distance. In addition, this lens is a Canon "L" lens so its build and optical quality are excellent. Does exactly what I wanted.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Expensive, Heavy

Excellent lens but sensitive!

frodoboy "Frodoboy", Amazon

  • Summary: I had a choice of this lens or the new Canon 100mm IS macro. Most people choose the 100mm because it is smaller and has IS. I have to admit that this thing is a bear to use without a tripod because, at 180mm, you have to have incredibly steady hands...which I don't! Another reason people choose the 100mm is because the bulk of Canon shooters out there have crop factor cameras.

Solid, Heavy and Super Sharp.

2 August 2013
  • Excerpt: I bought this lens used from the BH used Dept. Worth each penny. This lens is solid and heavy. I use this lens mostly hand held, mounted to a 1DS MK lll. The image quality is incredible.<br />Focusing is super slow when the switch is set to close focus. Focusing is as fast as any other lens when not in close focus setting. I have used this lens for some high action sports as well.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction

amazing - like nothing else out there

The Fog, Amazon
5 May 2013
  • Summary: I agree with the glowing reviews of the actual lens - it is amazing here's my thoughts on the other stuff it came with -- comes new with a hood as well as a very nice $50+ zippered soft case and tripod mount -- **the hood is a reversible, twist-on bayonet style similar to other OEM Canon L hoods and is independent of the 72mm filter ring - it is more of a cone-style flat hood, NOT a petal-style hood like the 70-210mm has **the LZ1324 case stands out as a high cost, high...
