Great Wide Prime w/Less FishEye Effect

Perry, Aesthetic Photographer, B&H Photo
8 January 2015
  • Excerpt: Bought the Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM (prime) lens and took it to France to shoot pictures every day for three months in 2011. Shot over 8,000 raw images and many videos using my 5D Mark II camera, mostly on tripod, many of them with this lens. Used the lens mostly in Paris for seven weeks doing street photography all over town, typically more than 10 hours a day and had three other lenses with me, which I have more recently upgraded.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Great for Video
  • Cons: Heavy

The WIDE one

tom la france, Amazon
31 December 2014
  • Summary: Digital Video: I think the 14mm USM2 is so amazing for video work, that I have to keep it. It focuses at 7 inch on the full frame 5d3 and shoots amazing stuff that looks like no other 24mm or prime for video. I have used it in two documentaries, and I feel like it has paid for itself. I hate to admit this, but the lens took a direct hit on hard icy cold concrete from a gorilla grip tripod, "THUMP" and it shows zero scratches for some reason.

  • Excerpt: Just got this lens. I will use it of all kinds of work, but it will be a great asset in my commercial work especially real estate photography. Just completed a shoot of 5 condo units on the beaches of South Walton County FL. Absolutely awesome lens. I was able to get "panoramic" views of small spaces, creating photographs with great appeal. Potential purchasors will feel they have been in the unit. No distortion at all if you get the shot set up correctly.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight

  • Excerpt: After a lifetime of photography, I am seldom surprised with exceptional quality equipment, but this amazes me. It is just plain better than good. With my full size sensors the wide , sharp view is very impressive and avoids the fish eye effect that I wish to avoid.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Expensive, Front Glass Easy Scratch
