A low cost alternative

  • Conclusion: I have been using this lens since the film days (1996) It can work very well for portraits and has very good background blurring. In the digital age it is just average and gives a bit of a magenta cast at f2.0-F4 with my 5D and 30D. it is still a very good lens from f5.6-f11 but not in the same league as the EF 85mm f1.8 or the EF 100mm F2.0.

  • Conclusion: I had high hopes for this lens when I got it but was a little bit let down once I started using it. At wide apertures the SF is a bit too much for my taste, even at the 1 setting. When stopped down to f/5.6 or more I have a difficult time seeing any difference between the 1 and 2 setting. At f/2.8 the 2 setting is unusable, the pictures produced with this setting look awful to me.
  • Pros: Very sharp with soft focus turned off, soft focus
  • Cons: Cheap feel, Soft focus not as good as I expected, but better than any screw-on filters I have used.

2. Das Objektiv ist ein richtiger Staubsauger.
