The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM is a multipurpose lens and supports the ability to capture sharp close-up images of small objects as well as portrait-length telephoto shots. The lens also features Canon’s Hybrid IS technology, which allows it to compensate camera shake during close-up shooting and improve image capture for professionals and advanced amateurs utilizing macro photography for portrait, nature or wedding shoots. It has a focal length of 100mm with a diagonal angle of view (APS-C) of 19.8 degrees, F32 minimum aperture setting, and is constructed from 15 elements in 12 groups construction. The lens has a minimum focus range of 0.3 m, a maximum magnification of 1.0x, 9 diaphragm blades, 67 mm filter thread and comes with frton and rear caps. The EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM features the Hybrid IS Technology which is designed especially for Macro Photography. The technology supports better panning capability and improved compensation for camera shake. The IS system compensates for both angular camera shake and shift camera shake which is a problem that becomes more apparent as magnification increases especially in macro photography. Conventional image stabilizers of the type found in Canon IS lenses incorporate an angular velocity sensor (vibration gyro) to compensate for angular camera shake. Based on the amount of camera shake detected by the sensor, the IS system calculates the amount of blur on the image plane, after which lens elements in the IS are positioned to compensate for the shake. The Hybrid IS includes an acceleration sensor in addition to the conventional angular velocity sensor (vibration gyro). Based on the amount of camera shake detected by the two sensors, an algorithm calculates the amount of blur on the image plane, after which lens elements in the IS are positioned to compensate for the two types of shake.
