Summary: Windows 8 pre-installed. I have been trying to activate it without success. As such I am not able to upgrade to Windows 8.1. I keep getting error messages that don't mean much. Displays to contact Microsoft Support but the link gets blocked by the Internet Explorer. I have more that 20 years experience with computers and Windows in particular. If it is this frustrating to me, I wonder what it would be to totally newcomer.
Excerpt: No bootable device error after two weeks of use on satellite laptop. Customer support unhelpful (didn't even know how to open bios) and wanted us to pay $150 to restore OS when the drive is likely bad. Would not give option to purchase restore disk for 40 (software not covered in their warranty). Had to pay to have laptop shipped for fix. Toshiba has the worst customer support policies that I have ever encountered. Recommend any other brand.
Summary: I've never before broken an electronic device, but this one ended my 10+ year streak. The design of the screen is such that the screen is not flush with the rest of the lid, but instead is set inward. This means that any pressure on the screen is NOT distributed across the case, but that the screen bears the entire force. If this laptop gets dropped, I suspect the screen will not survive (as other reviewers have suggested).
Summary: Maybe this is just bad luck. But we ordered a new model. It didn't turn on. Two hours with Toshiba troubleshooting. Not very helpful, despite that the serial # HAD ALREADY BEEN REGISTERED. Amazon, however, seemed genuinely embarrassed and sent us a new one within 24 hours. The new one lasted about three hours. Windows 8 problem? Toshiba problem? Frankly, don't give a damn at this moment.
Awful Experience. Toshiba, either get serious about the laptop market or get out.

Summary: The touchpad has been glitch from day one; now no longer works at all. Clumsy wireless router, shoddy casing. Lesson learned, don't buy electronics from accompany who's better days are behind them.
Summary: The product stopped working after the third use. It was found to have a defective hard drive (both by Geek Squad and Toshiba). Although defective, it cannot be returned due to "policy" which states opened laptops from this seller, even when found to be defective, cannot be returned. Therefore, Amazon cannot refund the $500 purchase.
Summary: This laptop is a joke with bad specs. Even with windows 8 "sleekness" it was confusing. It was slow at loading up even with ssd cache. It had a lot of bloatware of unnecessary programs that came with it. Biggest concern was hdmi out! Black screen flicker lasting 5 seconds every so minutes. It was horrible. Can't even watch anything. This laptop is not recommended because it was poorly built with "windows so amazing 8" .
