Summary: First thing I did was to get windows 8 removed - not very straightforward but nowhere near as difficult as you may have been led to believe! Using SSD drive as essentially a boot drive is a nice touch but I can't test it on my Linux Mint installation because in my haste to rid myself of Windows 8 (and get round it's so called "safe boot" and UEFI technologies) I installed the OS on the main hard drive instead of the SSD!
Summary: I got this laptop initially because it hit all the sweet spots: Sub £400 price, SSD, 14'', backlit keyboard. But this is a simple case of one component unravelling the entire purchase - the hard drive. But first the pros of this laptop: Lightweight - doesn't feel heavy on your lap Backlit keyboard - no more squinting in the dark to see which letter you hit SSD - One of the only laptops at this price point which offer an SSD Windows 8 - Yes, I'm listing this as a big plus...
Summary: I love this laptop! It is the perfect weight and size as I am a student and so have to bring it to college a lot, my last laptop was a Toshiba as well and it lasted 5 years so I was keen on another Toshiba and this one didn't let me down! It is unbelievable quality for the price. A lot of people complain about windows 8 but I personally really like windows 8 and find the swipe options very useful and handy even on this non-touch screen.
I didn't think I would hate windows 8 this much (can't enjoying using the laptop yet)

Summary: Windows 8 is awful. There is no need for it. It makes everything so much more complicated and stupid. There was nothing wrong with the old format. It worked well and everyone knew how to use it. Then they decide to make it like a phone/tablet. God awful set up and seems to make everything so much slower. It is a shame because I think this laptop would be ok but using windows 8 is such a horrible experience.
Summary: I tried to start up this new pc and it failed several times with "major error" - obviously no quality control atall. I cannot give a review as it never worked?? Amazon return policy though very efficient.
Summary: I decided to buy a Toshiba as I had a Toshiba Equium before which I was very happy with. However, I have to say that I am a little disappointed. My last Toshiba had excellent sound quality but i have to say this new Toshiba has possibly the worse speakers that I've come across on a laptop. I have had to buy exterior speakers in order to listen to anything at all.
Summary: i had to come back to this review to change the opinon. having brought this laptop in october, i had this laptop for 30days, the laptop suffered a complete hardware failure. windows ran a dionogstic check then next thing the black screen of death resulting in me returning back to amazon for a full refund. and i thank them for that. having no disc drive you can not get repair cd from toshiba but in my case nothing could be done.
Summary: Beautiful laptop! Small, thin, very light -at least, comparing it with my 15.6 Acer, previous one- It boots really, really fast -Windows 8 & the 32GB SSD- It has 4 hours of battery -it could be better, but i am happy with that. Allthough, moving my laptop once (2 times to be specific) i heard some noise from inside the hardware-like a small screw- and obviously i am afraid a bit of that. But until now, no problemos!!
