Summary: I'd like to share my experiences buying a touch screen Toshiba laptop. The screen is EXTREMELY fragile, and Toshiba will NOT cover it in their warranty for any reason. Two months after I bought it, it developed a crack in the screen. It had never fallen or had anything bad happen to it. I always put the pink foam pad in between the keyboard and screen when I closed the laptop. My laptop was used by me only and underwent NO trauma.
Summary: This Toshiba laptop would appear to push all the right buttons when It come to specifications, but realistically I would not consider this laptop for anyone who does content creation or even regular multimedia consumption for one simple reason; the screen is horrendous! Lousy viewing angles, Major color shifts with angle changes, Screen glare that can blind you, Resolution too low for modern 1080p media viewing, Fingerprints and smudges galore Photographers,...
Summary: So far I'm loving my Toshiba. Trying to get used to Windows 8.1, but so far I'm liking it. Sturdy, like the keyboard, the capacity and all the access to various types of storage. Not a laptop you want to travel with due to weight, but that's why I have an iPad and phone. Battery life is about 4-5 hours depending on what is running. Haven't used the CD burner yet, but may try that today. Registration and set up was simple enough.
Summary: Once I did some research and started booting into desktop with a shell that emulates Windows 7 start menu and desktop I feel right at home with 8.1 and very happy.
Pros: The unit I received appears to be just like new. Feels sturdy, nice chrome finish, nice backlit keyboard. I ran a build thru the manufacturer's website and a compatible would have been over $400 more than I paid. It runs Abobe CC and Corel X6 really nice. So far it runs perfect after the 8.1 update with no issues after I set it up.
Cons: Windows 8. It didn't run great out of the box. The Windows 8 was foreign to me and I didn't need or want all the cell / tablet style features. It took about a week to get everything setup and loaded the way that works for me. I did the free Windows 8.1 update and the performance was still kind of lame especially the Inet speed and reliability which made 8.1 a pain to download. Then I found the Toshiba Desktop assistant on the desktop which had a number of downloads to...
Summary: department personnel can't think beyond HDD and RAM size. After screen size the most important characteristic is the CPU speed. All ads and even tags in stores avoid stating this most important feature. Some slower computers are even priced higher than faster computers.
