Summary: I was looking for a laptop to replace my old Dell Inspiron 6000. I do a lot of work in low light conditions and I found this was a great choice with the backlit keyboard. I also like have the numeric keypad as well! The widescreen has great colors and the brightness has a great range of control. Now a few negatives. I DO NOT like the SD card slot on the front of the computer, it has somewhat rough edges to it and it is annoying when you hands/wrists rub against it.
Summary: Received that laptop in it's original factory packaging. Backlit keyboard is awesome, (but it doesn't work with Linux yet, oh well). I was going to put an SSD hard drive in it to match my media server's speed, but with the i5 2nd Gen, I can almost say that it's just as fast even with the mechanical HDD! Keyboard is always cool to the touch, and the mouse responds accurately. Battery power got me through a whole weekend in Chicago with power to spare.
Summary: I have been using this laptop for more than one year and haven't got any problems so far. Performance has been very good, even with demanding graphic applications. The only downsides are: 1. it is very heavy 2. It gets very hot when used intensively (videogames or similar). If you are looking for a compact computer to travel with, this is not the best option, and I would recommend to use it with a cooling pad.
Excellent monitor, clarity, brightness, laptop by Toshiba

Summary: Toshiba builds a good product with good sound by harman/kardon, good picture quality and brightness, keyboard feel is appropriate. Good weight. Only problem is the mousepad which seems to be occurring with several laptops brands lately - ultrasensitive and despite adjusting the mouse, it still remains too sensitive to touch. Not sure what is going on with this issue but has caused rework with erasure of information and data. Annoying and problemmatic.
