Summary: Think about it. For $300 more you can get a lap top that doesn't run on any form of Microsoft Software. Windows 7 is garbage. Always updating your computer. You better turn off the automatic updates or your Toshiba will actually TURN ITSELF OFF WHILE YOU ARE USING IT (even though you told it to @#$% off with automatic updates). My Toshiba is a wheezy, old, 4 pack per day smoker, that makes SO MUCH NOISE IT'S EVEN RUBBISH TO RUN PANDORA...............
Summary: Never get one Toshiba. Toshiba laptops have problems with their hard drives and other components. I had two laptops until now, they both crashed for no reasons. And I lost the data, and they haven't compensated me for the data recovery. Also they are overheating and I am extremely unsatisfied with their customer service.
Toshiba laptops have problems with their hard drives
Worst engineering: Toshiba, Amazon
15 December 2011
Summary: Never get one Toshiba. Toshiba laptops have problems with their hard drives and other components. I had two laptops until now, they both crashed for no reasons. And I lost the data, and they haven't compensated me for the data recovery.
Summary: The bottom line: do NOT buy a Toshiba Satellite laptop. The hard drive of my Satellite M645 failed after less than two months of careful use. It took three calls to reach a supervisor who could make decisions (the first was an employee whose English was barely intelligible). The inflexible and uncaring response: wait for an email with instructions. After I reply, they will send a box to ship the laptop; this will take 3 - 5 business days.
Summary: Reference - Serial No. 3B177981K I bought my 1st Toshiba Satellite M645-S4116X (SNo 3B177981K) on 29Apr11 from Amazon expecting to receive a reliable piece. In the very 1st month, there was an alarm notification for over heating and malfunctioning of the fan. I called the service centre and was told this could be a software error and to get back if it occured again.
Summary: I bought this laptop in december 2010. The laptop worked fine for 6 months i.e SIX MONTHS before a portion of my screen went blank. No there was no spills no falls, nothing but a faulty screen. Could not return it seeing as my time to return it to amazon had passed, i called toshiba and they said that they don't build faulty screens.
Summary: NIGHTMARISHLY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE BY TOSHIBA... This laptop has swallowed DVDs 3 times, literally disappeared inside the case and I had to send the system back into Toshiba. In addition, I have only had more than 20 minutes internet access one time. It cuts out regularly (though the system shows I'm connected). Programs take 60-90 seconds to start up. I've been sent to local repair shops, including CDW, one of the biggest sellers in the country.
Summary: I purchased this model in late March of 2011. While I was using skype, I grabbed the upper left corner of the screen to adjust the angle and the LED went completely out in the upper corner. After calling, Toshiba does not cover the screen as they consider any issues with the screen as 'physical damage' and offered to fix it for $450! This was the first and last Toshiba I will ever buy - what a fragile computer.
Summary: I've had this machine for 4 months. It is completely unstable and unreliabe, erases files on its own, wi-fi problems all the time, varies administrator privileges at will, slow and primitive. My humble advice is, if you are going to spend this money, buy something else. This thing is not worth it, and, of course, Toshiba support is a joke.
Summary: I purchased this laptop a few months ago for doing audio production because it had great specs for the price; 7200rpm drive, 4G ram, i5 processor etc. However, this machine cannot hold a firewire connection to save it's life. I'm using a Startech PCExpress firewire card (TI Chipset) connected to a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24.
