Summary: This is my first laptop so I can't compare it to anything I've had in the past; however, it was supposed to be a back-up for my desktop, but it turned out being my main p.c. First off, the photos of the laptop do it no justice. It looks a lot sleeker and sturdier when it's in front of you as opposed to the photos I've seen on the internet. The speakers are weak, but the audio output with headphones is pretty good.
Summary: I did about 2 weeks worth of research before buying this laptop and I found the Toshiba L505-GS5037 for $579.99 at Amazon the best deal around. I'm a first time international buyer and had this shipped to my country through a relative and I must mention the excellent guidance and service given to me by Amazon. I felt safe and secure and had all my questions answered fully - so good job Amazon, I'll definitely be buying more from your website!
Summary: I got this laptop about 1 week ago, and I am generally pleased with the quality. Everything worked smoothly out of the box, and it's been working flawlessly with my wireless N D-link router. Toshiba's functions key controls for hibernating, changing video output, etc are well designed and intuitive to use. On the minus side, the speakers are a bit tinny sounding.
A fantastic mid-range laptop. Great for college students.

Summary: Not too long ago, I needed to buy a new laptop computer since my old Dell computer nearly died. (There was some sort of hard drive problem that would only allow me to start up in 'safe mode.') After scouring Amazon for several days, I decided upon this Toshiba Satellite computer. It seemed like the best value for the money I was willing to spend. Pros: Big screen -- This is great for watching movies in true 16:9 ratio.
Summary: I just got this laptop because I was moving and had to ship my desktop ahead of time. I paid $600 for this computer and have been very surprised at the performance of it so far. the wireless works great, video looks good too. comes with a free upgrade to windows 7. basically if you are looking for a decent laptop for not a lot of money this works very well.
Summary: I got the toshiba L505-6946 - can't see on amazon - difference is that it has 2.0 mhz intel chip and no seperate graphics card. very happy with the machine, and having shopped around a lot, nothing near the price with same specs (Aug 09). I bought it partly based on my previous toshiba and this one has been good so far. toshiba generally adds some good software and functionality from the company. no issues at all, so can't comment on customer support.
Summary: It is a good laptop. This is my first laptop so I really don't have much to compare it to. I have not had any problems except the sound on it is very low and the battery life won't last 2 hours but that wasn't a issue for me, I would just plug it up to the charger. If you are a person that would like to travel with their laptop and use it all over, this one is not for you unless you don't mind using your charger every where you go.
Summary: This is one of those good, basic Toshiba laptops that go for a reasonable price, and will do most of what you want it to do. There are a couple of problems, however. The shiny black finish preserves all your fingerprints and requires constant cleaning to get rid of them. The speakers are small and atrocious: they make your music sound like its being played on one of those old tinny transistor radios. (Buy a good set of headphones.
