Summary: I bought my Toshiba last month, and I'm not sorry for buying it at it's current price. I was replacing a 6 year old SONY VAIO laptop. The SONY VAIO laptop. The SONY never seemed to work properly since new. The Toshiba is fantastic. It's lightweight, good screen resolution, good battery life and basically very good all around.
Summary: nice computer, seems to do everything. CD door is a little clumsy. do not try to install Ubuntu(linux operating system), not compatible. if you don't like win8, just down load "Classic Shell", then it looks like win7. Pros: Extremely affordable; Lightweight for a 15-inch notebook; Large keyboard; Face recognition Cons: Undersized space bar; Below average performance and graphics The Verdict: At just $399, the Toshiba Satellite C655-S5542 is a pretty good deal for those...
Summary: Windows 8 annoyed me enough to reload with Linux. There is a trick to loading ANY Linux on this machine. The trick to loading Linux that will reboot and actually run is to go into "setup"(Hit "F11" right after pressing "Start" button) before it boots into the OS. Go to the "Advanced" tab, select "System Configuration" and change the boot type to CSM, instead of UEFI. Until I figured this out, even if I could get ANY Linux distro to load, it wouldn't boot.
Summary: I judge PCs pretty harshly, I have always custom built my PCs and for you that don't know any PC you buy in a store SUCKS, I've never owned a laptop due to the hardware not being about to reach my needs. So I end up buying this laptop and I'm actually quit please with it, its Fast and reliable, and should be suitable for anyone's basic needs and can even handle some decent games such as Diablo3 or StarCraft2 though haven't played any Heavy fps High graphic games.
Summary: I bought this laptop after my desktop started acting strange. I was paranoid about something happening with my computer, because I am in college so I decided to buy a laptop for school only purposes. So I bought this one. I didn't get it on Amazon. I bought it at Best Buy. It was around the same price, so I figured it was whatever price wise. I wanted something simple. Nothing super fancy with a whole bunch of bells and whistles.
I appreciate the quality and service received during this purchase.

Summary: This laptop is a great buy for the price. I am an over 60 customer and have had little trouble with navigating in the new formats. I got a little coaching from my daughter and that helped. I like the length of time that the battery holds a charge, and appreciate the easy to read screen icons. My daughter surprisingly prefers the classic home page, but being a senior citizen like the larger graphics that are on the newer start screen.
