  • Excerpt: I’ve never really been interested in laptops, I’m more of a desktop girl myself, but when moving to university 3 years ago and having to live in a studio flat, my desktop just took up too much space. So I needed a laptop. Unfortunately, I had spent a lot of my loan on clothes and holiday’s (as you do!) so I had to find something on the cheaper side.
  • Pros: Compact, good hard drive space and processing speed
  • Cons: Its durability, and has become out - dated

  • Excerpt: Wow what a sight, one of the best looking laptops in my opinion. Not too heavy, nice and compact, lovely big bright 14.1" screen. The 1.1 celron processor is adequate and the 256mb ram is enough for most people. More sockets and connectors on the back of the machine than you can dream. I really, really like this laptop BUT!! i have had a couple of niggling problems with it.
  • Pros: wow what a looker !  nice bright big screen .
  • Cons: have had trouble with program buttons and dvd with little after sales care

Good when it works. Bad when it doesn't!

  • Excerpt: I've had the 1800 model since the beginning of last year. it's generally very fast (installed with a 1.2gig Pentium processor). For the first few months it ran smoothly. no problems and a lot faster than my desktop. dvd's and games played well and there never any problems with streaming even at the higher visual resolutions. problems began to arise as i started using it more frequently and for longer hours.
  • Pros: Reasonably priced, fast, user friendly, sturdy .
  • Cons: Overheating, poor after sales support, a bit noisy .

The ultimate in portable PC technology

  • Excerpt: There is a saying amongst laptop buyers. Buy the absolute best you can afford. These things are very expensive compared to their bulky desktop counterparts, so you have to be sure that you're going to get a good few years of use out of it before it becomes obsolete. When choosing my laptop, I had looked at many systems including PC World's own-brand "Advent" systems.
  • Pros: Nice, sturdy unit .   Feels like you could play table tennis with it .
  • Cons: multimedia buttons are stupidly placed and you find yourself accidentally opening Windows Mediaplayer all too often .

The LOADED overheater

  • Excerpt: It is a great laptop with a great build BUT one major flaw. It has all the HOT hardware at affordable pricing such as CD-RW/DVD player, 14.1" screen, P3 Processor and Windows XP and this hardware can sometimes literally become too hot. The fan inside the laptop that cools down the processor inside is hardly adequate for this laptop as my laptop regularly switches off if I try to run too many applications on my laptop at once.
  • Pros: Lots of features for under £1300
  • Cons: Overheats easily

  • Excerpt: I was given this product to me as a christmas present, in practice mainly for my school work, and in the following year - university work. I initially was amazed at the quality of the package, the laptop is very robust, and is documented extremely well. I started the machine up, and its amazingly quiet, its keys are very light, and the touch-sensitive pad is unique, its so responsive up to all other laptops.
  • Pros: Value, Sleek, Sexy, Well produced and researched .  Suits everyones needs
  • Cons: No Bluetooth, Quick access buttons may be nudged (hasnt happened to me yet)

  • Excerpt: I have recently bought a Toshiba Satellite 1800-400, which has a 800Mhz Intel Celeron Processor, 128 MB RAM, 15Gb hard drive, dvd and 14.1" screen. This laptop is most definetly worth the money - especially for students like myself. Just think its space saving and you can take it into Uni to do work which means more time in the pub. I have had no major problems with it and its faster than my PC at home.
  • Pros: good spec, fairly cheap, good for DVD playing
  • Cons: Battery life

  • Excerpt: I recently purchased one of theese laptops as a replacement for my pc i needed somything which was up to date and would run with all my existing software and hardware. I find this laptop to be easy to use and very robust as i have children who have already stood on it. the scrren is large and very clear but does not hurt your eyes like some do. it has 2 built in expansion ports and can be plugged into a standard mouse keyboard and monitor to make it a mobile hard drive.
  • Pros: small, easy to use,
  • Cons: gets quite hot during use
