Summary: I was quite pleased with my Toshiba, I've been using it since May 2012 and didn't have too many problems. All the disadvantages such as flimsy screen etc. were negated by the excellent battery life, decent performance, and such nice features as back-lit keyboard and SSD. I travelled a lot and was able to get a lot of work (as well as non-work fun) done with this affordable ultrabook.
Summary: A lot of great things about this laptop. It's light, compact, powerful and dependable. I was warned against the flexible monitor but that has done well. The issue is the flexible keyboard and specifically the space key. I have had to edit this post 17 times so far. It does well with an external keyboard or if you are a slow and deliberate typist. Seriously, other than the key board Toshiba makes great laptops and this is no exception.
Summary: Purchased this laptop 15 months ago from Best Buy for $800. Worked well for nearly a year when it stopped working. Told BB thought the hard drive no longer worked. BB said they'd never had one with a hard drive issue. Still under warranty, it was sent off & yes, it was the hard drive that Toshiba replaced. Now it's crashed again with the same problem. I will never, ever purchase a Toshiba product again.
Summary: I purchased this laptop in early 2012, so I've had it for nearly two years. It just started giving me trouble. When I attempt to turn it on after hibernation, it often freezes on the black "Toshiba" screen, or simply begins to turn on and then stops. I then have to press and hold the power button to force shut down and/or turn it on again and hope that it doesn't present the same problem.
Summary: Toshiba almost hit the mark !! I dont mind the old style look and feel of the keyboard. I even don't really mind the flimsy feel (not much of a big deal for me...in fact i didn't notice until i read some of the reviews). I love the weight !! I've just bought it so i guess i can't comment yet on screen cracking - mine hasn't yet...however the quality of the display is the REAL drawback! It's not as easy on the eyes as my older hp.
Summary: This is a very nice, small, light laptop. In fact is is lighter than an IPAD. It can be carried anywhere. But there is a major problem. The material is so flimsy that the body has warped so it won't sit flat on a table top. The review indicated that calling Toshiba was a waste of time. So I just taped a little rubber pad to the bottom where it is warped to level it out. The point of a light laptop is to carry it around.
Summary: It is as thin and as light as many mentioned. I believe fan noise issue have been resolved by Toshiba (BIOS update). Screen is bright. Speed is fine for browsing, Skype, youtube (plays fine 720p resolution). Problems: screen is flimsy. In fact, so flimsy that it cannot hold my Logitech C920 webcam after certain lid angle. Built-in webcam video quality is not acceptable in low light. Another thing I did not see owners mentioned in their reviews is screen flickering.
Summary: I bought this unit from Toshiba Direct, they are courteous and try to help. There was a lot to like about it, but the fan noise is really an unresolved problem. I now see this problem can be seen all over the internet. Toshiba tech support stated they are unaware of the problem. The fan actually makes a "fluttering whine" sound, which never turns off from the moment the machine is turned on.
